Centurion
Centurion
Through a banded approach, Centurion comes together as a floating timber pavilion that sits lightly atop its more anchored masonry base.
Located in Bardon, the horseshoe shaped form wraps neatly around an open landscape with views that stretch out over an infinity-edge pool, carving a secluded escape from the streetscape.
As a balancing of elements, the rectilinear forms feel deliberately open and transparent through expressed connections out into the surrounding natural aspect. A sense of restraint underpins the design and further creates a feeling of calm through a controlled simplicity and refinement. Using such a specific palette, the experience of the home becomes enriched, where a consistency in tone and finish binds the spaces, and the multiple levels.
While one edge of the home directs focus to the view in the distance and out over the treetop canopies, an additional Japanese inspired courtyard space sits on the other side of the building form. Walled in on each side, the carefully manicured space represented a more enclosed gesture of calm, inward facing. The contrast between open and closed, and heavy and light elements conjures an equilibrium - where a combined sense of relaxed and disconnected moments defines the home in its entirety.
